Catalog description

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of diagnostic coding using the ICD -10-CM classification system. Students learn the structure and conventions of the ICD -10-CM code book, the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, and basic code as signment principles. The course covers Alphabetic Index and Tabular List navigation, code sequencing rules, and chapter -specific coding guidelines for selected body systems. Students practice applying coding principles through case studies and exercises emphasizing accuracy, compliance, and equitable documentation of social determinants of health.
