Catalog description

This course serves as an introduction to the study of the New Testament in general and of the gospels in particular. We will focus on the writing, the historical setting, and the ideas about discipleship in each of the 4 canonical gospels. We will pay special attention to the way each of the four gospels presents Jesus to a community in a particular place, time, political setting and socio-cultural worldview. Finally, we will look at our own place, time, political setting and socio-cultural worldview to ask who Jesus is in our communities today, and how the gospels challenge our assumptions about discipleship and also equip us for deepening faith-our own, and the faith of the community with whom we serve.
