Lutheran Theology: Sources & Hermeneutic

In this course, we will study Lutheran sources, in light of their historical roots, with contemporary theological concerns and practical ministry situations in mind. We will first encounter Luther and his reformation calls, and then engage selected texts from the Book of Concord. With our focus on the Augsburg Confession and Large Catechism, our aim is to articulate with them the basic tenets and emphases, as well as growing edges, of particularly Lutheran theology and spirituality. We will pay attention to and learn from the ethnic and global diversity in Lutheran tradition as we pursue hermeneutics and parameters for Christian life that employ Luther's freedom theology.
