Catalog description

This course introduces students to the art and craft of scenic painting and stage design for live performance. Through hands-on projects and studio work, students will explore techniques used to create realistic and stylized environments for the stage, including surface texturing, color mixing, trompe-l'oeil, faux finishes, and large-scale painting. Emphasis is placed on translating design renderings into full-scale scenery, understanding materials and tools, and collaborating within a production team. Students will gain practical experience working with scenic flats, drops, and three-dimensional elements, as well as develop an appreciation for visual storytelling and the painter's role in shaping theatrical worlds.
