Catalog description

TAUGHT BY JST. Beginning with an overview of theories of social change and social movements, this course will investigate practices of Christian spirituality to understand the role of lived experience of faith in mobilizing communities for political, economic, and social transformation. The class will also investigate models of political theology to consider the Christian agent's role in relation to civil society and government. In addition, students will learn concrete community leadership skills such as asset-based community mapping, appreciative inquiry, participatory activities for catalyzing change, grant writing, and gender/racial/conflict assessments. This course will utilize lecture and participatory activities and assessment will be based on projects and presentations. Offered as a residential course with option for online synchronized participation for MDiv, MA, and MTS students. Upgrade available to the 4000-level with an additional 15-page paper and required supplemental reading. [14 max enrollment]
