Taught by New College Berkeley. Words and the Natural World: Speaking For and About Non-Human Beings will focus on how several contemporary literary writers have invited readers to rethink our relationship to non-human orders of being. Students will be expected to write a reflection paper on how spirituality, science, and social/political critique intersect in the work of those writers; two close readings of passages or poems; and brief responses to prompts provided for short writing exercises in class. Format will be lecture/discussion. Offered online. Open to all GTU students and community members. [15 max enrollment; Auditors with Faculty Permission]
