Global Social Issues in Sport

Catalog description
This course adopts the sociological approach to social problems to examine complex social issues faced by people, social institutions, social organizations, and societies that are impacted by sport as a global social phenomenon. It aims to explore current social issues and trends in global sport through a sociological lens. Sociological theories are applied to decipher complex connections between sport and politics, economics, religion, race, gender, youth, and more. Emphasis is placed on the emerging global issues such as global sport governance, sport wagering, the use of social protest by athletes and sport organizations, gender inequity, racism, sport sustainability, and sport safety.
