Catalog description

Taught by JST. WALKING WITH JESUS: RADICAL DISCIPLESHIP What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus? Each of the great Christian spiritualities offers a distinctive account of the central features of radical discipleship-- discipleship rooted deeply in the believer and in the tradition. In this course, we will explore several of the great spiritualities of Christian tradition, including (but not limited to): Benedictine, Franciscan, Carmelite, Lutheran, and Ignatian. Primary texts will be emphasized, along with historical context and ethical commitments/ implications. Spiritualities are like flavors of ice cream-- you can talk about them, but it's better to try them. Accordingly, dipping into some of the salient practices of each tradition and sharing our experience will be an important part of our work. Class will be seminar-style, grading will be based on reflection papers and a final longer paper. [20 max enrollment]
