Catalog description

Taught by JST. This seminar will explore major insights of Thomas Merton, twentieth-century monk/mystic/prophet. We will consider a variety of themes in his writings, including contemplation, the true self, solitude and solidarity, dialogue with Eastern religions, peacemaking/nonviolence, and ecological awareness. Merton's quest for personal and societal transformation and his legacy of contemplative-prophetic consciousness will inform our exploration. Reflection papers, class presentations, final paper.
