Catalog description

This course introduces Japanese society, popular culture, and media. The first half of the course will examine Japanese history and religions, as well as the impact of globalization on Japanese society. The second half of the course will familiarize students with the key media sources in Japan, including newspapers, television, anime/manga, and film. It will also introduce students to Japanese journalism, advertising, and entertainment industries. The course includes a trip to Japan for approximately two weeks.
