Taught by GTU. Introduction to a "canonical sample" of religious films from the silent era to the modern day. Building on the film courses taught by the late Father Michael Morris, this course differs from his courses in its ecumenical scope. Whereas the films discussed in Father Morris' classes focused thematically on a range of Christian phenomena from a Catholic perspective (e.g. "Priests, Cardinals, and Popes," "The Cloistered Cinema," "Saints, Visionaries, Legends, and Miracles") the aim of this course is to provide a broader spectrum of films from different Christian expressions, including Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, Mainline and Evangelical Protestantism, as well as expansion into the other Abrahamic religions: Judaism and Islam.
