Taught by GTU. Poetry for Preaching, Pastoral Care, and Life. "Poetry is distilled life" (Gwendolyn Brooks). This course is aimed at students who are interested in incorporating poetry into their future work, whatever shape that might take. It is designed to teach students how to use poetry everywhere from the pulpit to the hospital bed, from a wedding ceremony to an e-newsletter. Because poetry is the art of using language, familiarity with it will sharpen our gifts as preachers, care providers, and thinkers and writers of every kind. This course will be divided between lectures, seminar-style discussions, and workshops.
