TAUGHT BY GTU. Myths are the world's dreams. They are archetypal dreams and deal with great human problems. Myths and dreams come from the same place. They come from realizations...that then have to find expression in symbolic form. Joseph Campbell The focus of the class centers on how archetypal energies of creation are explored in cultural cosmology and mirrored in the personal growth, spirituality, and creative practice of the individual. Experiential creative exercises, readings, discussion, and personal studio work will offer a deepening experience of these primal and powerful life forces. For the duration of the course, each student will choose one pair of archetypal opposites chosen from the following list: Darkness/Light, Below/Above, Inner/Outer, Closed/Open. The chosen pair of opposites will be creatively explored through in-class experiential exercises and studio work at home. Ancient and contemporary imagery will be presented that illuminates the expression of these energies across cultures. Areas of focus include: Working in the Dark, Origins, Axis Mundi, Crossroads and Integration. No art experience is necessary. The course is focused on internal growth and development of the individual. Each student will apply the course content to their own spiritual orientation and personal needs.
