California Lutheran University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
TAUGHT BY GTU. This course will explore what it would mean to imagine the life of Jesus as offering a model for the good life and human flourishing. Engaging sources as diverse as the writings of Søren Kierkegaard, Amy Hollywood, Howard Thurman, and Judith Butler, the course will analyze the life of Jesus in light of themes such as joy, love, trauma, justice, forgiveness, and vulnerability. It will specifically assess the life of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Luke as a model of properly relating to and caring for the vulnerability of oneself and others. The course will be offered in a seminar format and evaluation will be based on weekly participation, presentations, and final papers. [Auditors With Faculty Permission]
