Catalog description

Taught by DSPT. This course examines the main theories that explain how the mind and the body relate, and whether the mind can be reduced to its biological basis. It critically appraises dualism and materialism and puts forward an alternative solution with a hylomorphic understanding of the mental and the physical. This is an hybrid course that comprises an online lecture and an in-class discussion. A weekly lecture will be delivered electronically before our class discussion. Assignments include paper reviews, student presentations and final exam. This is an advanced course and familiarity of basic philosophical concepts is recommended. [Auditors excluded]
