Philosophical Anthropology

Catalog description

Taught by DSPT. This course will examine the soul, life, sensation, intellect, will, and the processes of cognition and choice from the perspective of the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition. Contemporary philosophical issues in human evolution, human development, and the unity of the person in the face of mind/brain and body/soul dualisms will also be discussed. Lecture/discussion format. Students will be evaluated based on their class participation, responses to weekly discussion questions, and three short essays or a final research paper. Intended audience: MA, MTS, and MDiv students. A course on the Philosophy of Nature (PH-1056 or equivalent) is recommended as a prerequisite. [Auditors excluded]
