Catalog description
During the course of a career in public administration, many public managers will be assigned the responsibility of managing capital construction or major maintenance projects, information technology projects, or other unique onetime assignments which would be defined as "projects". This course will introduce the basics of project management in theory and practice, and the roles and responsibilities of the project manager. For each topic, the class will discuss and consider project management principles, standards and guidelines as described in the course textbook and other academic publications and resources. The class will also have the opportunity to meet and learn from project management professionals. Technical expertise on project scheduling, planning, financing and the principals of strategic management in pursuit of public vale will be introduced during this class. The overall emphasis of the class is on understanding the most important principles.
