Catalog description

Taught by DSPT. The course will offer opportunities to work with Mark, Matthew, and Luke: what they share, where they differ, how they communicated in their likely historical contexts and to us now. The standard critical tools of biblical study will be used: recovery as possible of historical and sociological circumstances; relevant literary features in particular; some sense of how the gospels have been received. Their relationship to the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament will get special attention. Lecture/discussion format; short writing assignments. [Faculty Consent required; 15 max enrollment; Auditors excluded]
