Catalog description

This course equips emerging teachers with the essential knowledge and practical skills necessary to effectively assess and measure student learning. Participants will explore the principles, theories, and methods of educational assessment, focusing on designing and implementing various assessment tools to gauge student progress accurately. Key components include understanding assessment validity, reliability, and fairness, exploring different assessment types (formative, summative, and authentic), and learning to interpret assessment data to inform instruction. Through hands-on experiences, participants will create assessment instruments, analyze results, and develop strategies to address diverse learning needs. Students will explore assessment instruments commonly used in IEP and 504 plans in order to gain a better understanding of necessary accommodation and modifications they need to make as teachers. The course emphasizes the ethical use of assessments and their role in promoting student growth and informing instructional decisions.
