Catalog description

Taught by GTU/IBS. Psychological Aspects of Buddhism I: Foundations in Buddhist Psychological Thought: An examination of the development of psychological theories in the abhidharma, Yogacara and tathagatagarbha systems of thought, particularly through the reading of primary sources in translation. Where appropriate, comparison with Western psychological theories will also be considered. Course is offered online in a directed readings format--student read and write brief reflections weekly. Grading: reflection papers and term paper, topic to be decided in consultation with instructor. May be repeated for credit when different primary texts are being studied. May be upgraded for doctoral students. [Auditors excluded]
