Taught by GTU. BUDDHISM AND SHINTO IN JAPANESE HISTORY Explores the relationship between Shinto and Buddhism through the course of Japanese history, from the advent of Buddhism to Japan, to the various associations and combinations of the two traditions, and their forced separation by the government at the end of the 19th century. Prerequisites: Assumes some knowledge of Japanese religion, culture and/or language. Course format: Online lecture and discussion. Evaluation method: Participation/Term paper. [Auditors with faculty permission]
