TAUGHT BY GTU. This course will introduce participants to the core facets of Jewish practice, peoplehood, and thought, with a special focus on how Jews and Judaism conceptualize their own tradition and interact with others. This class will employ classical texts and secondary literature in service of exploring how the Jewish tradition has changed over time while simultaneously focusing on core thematic questions related to interreligious encounter (ideology, ritual, text, land, gender, sexuality and race). Descriptive analysis of past trends and contemporary issues will be supplemented by forward-looking strategies for improving interreligious relations and engagement. This online course will include both required asynchronous and optional synchronous elements: independent reading, writing and posting reflections on Moodie, and commenting on other students' posts; along with an optional class sessions via ZOOM. The course is designed for students in the Interreligious Studies Certificate Program and can be taken by those in the MDiv, MA, and MTS degree programs. [15 max enrollment; Auditors Excluded]
