Catalog description
With an emphasis on literary works by African-American writers, this course explores race in the American context. Each semester offers a different focus based on culture, genre, or theme. For example: Race and Ethnicity in the 19th Century, Modernism and the Harlem Renaissance, Representations of Race in African-American Literature, Slave Narratives and Neo-Slave Narratives, and 20th Century African American Literature. Prerequisite: Engl 111.
