Catalog description

This course examines the various ways that congregations are and could address urban violence. As an interdisciplinary course, the readings will draw from the research of sociologists, criminologists, psychologists, historians, and theologians. The array of congregational approaches will be organized in terms of immediate, mid-range, and long-range strategies. And the discussion will focus on how congregations engage the issue on various levels: individual, family, network, neighborhood, municipal, state, and federal. Panelists will be invited to contribute to the discussion according to their expertise: law enforcement, activism, and parish ministry.
