Victimology

Catalog description

This course examines the emerging field of victimology, with a focus on the causes and consequences of victimization. Through readings, discussions, and application of theories and concepts to real life cases, students will examine how society, the criminal justice system, social service agencies, and community organizations respond to victims. This course compares the experiences of victims in the United States and globally with an emphasis on marginalized groups. Students will also analyze topics such as the harmful effects of violence and crime, the victim-offender overlap, and new prevention efforts.
