Contemporary Policing

Catalog description

This course examines the core concepts and foundations of policing. Students will learn the history of policing in the United States and evaluate the current climate of policing. Students will examine the social, legal, economic, and political issues affecting policing today; including critically analyzing policing strategies, effectiveness, liability, accountability, and responsibility. Additionally, the course focuses on the public perception of topics such as the police, a police officer's discretion, police deviance and ethics, role of technology, and other contemporary issues in policing.
