Taught by JSTB. Social entrepreneurship uses business strategies to achieve social and sustainability goals. Social entrepreneurs play the role of change agents in the social sector by: adopting a mission to create and sustain social value; recognizing new opportunities to serve that mission; engaging in continuous innovation, adaptation and learning; and exhibiting heightened accountability to the consistencies served. This reading and discussion course prepares Jesuits and Catholic lay ministers to engage in social entrepreneurship promotion and acceleration. The three meetings will enable students to understand what social entrepreneurship is in the context of Laudato Si; explain strategies for promoting ecological justice for the poor; describe components of social enterprise acceleration and scaling; and reflect upon social entrepreneurship in connection with their own vocation.
