Love and Difference: Individual Uniqueness & Socil Ethics

TAUGHT BY GTU. This course will look at human individuality as the basis for an ethics of love and of social flourishing, considering individual difference as it impacts notions of love on the interpersonal level and on a wider scale within society. Engaging with thinkers like Kelly Oliver, Luce Irigaray, Catherine Keller, David Kelsey, and Linn Tonstad, we will explore various approaches to understanding the nature of human difference and the ethical obligation to care for this difference and how this difference might serve as the basis for cultivating universal love of neighbor rather than sameness. The course will be offered in a seminar format and evaluation will be based on weekly participation, presentations, and final papers. This course is designed for MA, MDiv, DMin, and PhD students.
