This course will explore the representations of race/ethnicity in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, New Testament, and the ancient cultures that influenced and produced the texts. Since this is a relatively new field of study in the ancient world, students will be doing original research and working together to develop paradigms for understanding the concepts in the Bible as understood through critical race and ethnicity theories. Grades will be based on active class participation in this seminar course, oral presentation(s), and a research paper.
