Catalog description

This is an introductory course in American Sign Language, the native language of the deaf. Topics will include: instruction in the basic language structure, manual signs, fingerspelling, grammar, syntax, tense indicators, idioms, and gestures required for beginning manual communication with members of the deaf community and other signers. Students will also begin to explore aspects of deaf culture and the dynamics of the deaf community.
