ART 210
Indigenous Art of the Americas
California Lutheran University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Students survey the select history of indigenous visual arts from the Americas, including architecture, sculpture, painting, pottery, textiles and, in certain cases, performance. We begin with an exploration of Pre-Columbian art and architecture of ancient cultures (from the Olmec to the Aztec) in Meso-America; then survey the Chavin and Inca, among other peoples in the Andean region (Peru and Bolivia). We conclude by tracing developments in North America, including traditional to contemporary art making practices from a few nations. All works are considered in a cultural context.
