Fruit Production

Catalog description

Explores plant science fundamentals of plant growth and fruit production to produce sustainable crops. Students will learn integrated pest management and cultural management practices of site and variety selection, composting, crop rotation, and cover crops to improve soil, plant, and environmental health. Through a blend of plant science, philosophical inquiry, case studies, and hands-on farming, students will grow organic fruit and explore the impact of food production on the environment and society. Students compare and contrast organic and conventional farming systems while examining the laws and regulations shaping agriculture today. Students engage with the realities of local and California farm systems through guest speakers, field trips, and cultivation of the Cabrillo College Certified Organic farm. May be offered in a distance-learning format.
