Catalog description
Provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to be effective Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) in their community and prepares students to enter the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program. Topics include roles and responsibilities of an EMR; a general overview of anatomy and physiology; and a wide range of medical conditions, traumatic injuries, and situations. These skills are generally applied to entry-level roles in the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) systems, life-guarding, volunteer fire, and US Forest Service. Students will have the opportunity to obtain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within the course. May be offered in a distance-learning format. CPR certification required prior to or concurrent with the course.
