Asepsis for Surgical Tech

Catalog description
This course covers the principles and practices of surgical asepsis that must be maintained in the operating room. This course will cover a brief introduction to microbiology with emphasis on infection control in the surgical setting. The course will cover decontamination, instrumentation, sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis and the function of the Sterile Processing Technician and the Surgical Technologist as it applies to these roles in the health care facility. Upon completion of this coures students will be eligible to sit for the CBSPD certification exam. Prerequisite: Admission into the Surgical Technology Program. MEETING DETAILS: 3 hrs lec; 1 hr lab
