Catalog description

The course builds on the basic skills learned in Mandarin I. It is designed for students who might be planning to visit China for business, pleasure or for further study, and it will teach students some of the unique cultural practices of the country will be introduced, from the forms of courtesy to the way of asking questions. The objective of the course will be to sharpen students' oral and written communication skills. We will focus on everyday situations and combine practice in speaking with exercises in writing. The course will stress clarity in writing, and will teach students how to think critically in formulating statements and understanding meaning. This course meets the General Education requirement for Creative Work.
