Catalog description
This course studies the chemistry of carbon compounds including nomenclature, molecular structure and functional groups. Topics include the reactivity and properties of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, stereochemical relationships and nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactions. Mechanisms are presented as a unifying principle for these reactions. Students are required to purchase approved safety goggles. Class meets: 3 hours lecture; 3 hours lab.
