Incarceration and Work

Catalog description

This course examines the multifaceted relationship between incarceration and labor in the United States. We will examine incarceration as a social institution and explore how it intersects with work and employment, not just behind prison walls, but outside of prison as well. Through a comprehensive analysis of theoretical perspectives, empirical research, and historical analysis, students will gain a deep and nuanced understanding of carceral labor as a site of both exploitation and opportunity, marginalization and resistance.
