Local Justice

Do we live in a just city? What are the most important ways in which we can pursue justice at the local level? What does it mean to be a good neighbor? As we all find ourselves in Buffalo, “the city of good neighbors”, we have an opportunity to understand the requirements of justice in a local context. In this course, we will bring together tools from philosophy, politics, and economics to answer these questions. We will cover a range of topics including education, housing, policing, local elections, city government and regulations, whether we should buy local, and how we should allocate our time and money when it comes to different ways of making our city more just.
