Catalog description
Surveys major cultural and traditional elements that have influenced various aspects of Chinese life. Topics include classical Chinese philosophical ideals, religion, women, family, education, Chinese language and symbolic reference, and literature and art. This course is intended to introduce Chinese culture at its surface level and middle level: namely, material culture and institutional culture. The deep level or philosophical value of the Chinese culture will be addressed in CHI 421 . Taught in English; requires no knowledge of Chinese language. An optional course for Chinese Minor.
