This topics course will focus on one advanced area in applied mathematics. Topics may include numerical linear algebra, applied partial differential equations, optimal control, parameter estimation and model fitting. Prerequisite: Math B203 or Math B210 and Math 206 or Math B301, or permission of instructor Current topic description: Evolutionary dynamics is the mathematical study of evolutionary processes permeating every corner of biology. In this course, we will cover topics related to cooperation, altruism, opinion dynamics, infectious diseases, cancer, and ecological processes. We will introduce and study the mathematical and computational techniques needed to tackle such problems, including differential equations, stochastic processes, and network analysis.
