What is capitalism? Why are so many people so passionate in its defense and critique? This course deals with the history of political philosophy concerning capitalism. We engage in close reading of classic work by thinkers including Adam Smith, Karl Marx, David Ricardo, Henry George, Max Weber, and Elizabeth Anderson, focusing on the nature and justification of private property rights and free markets.
