Indigenous Women and the Power of Rematriation

Catalog description

This class is a survey course on Indigenous women and the power of rematriation. It will provide an intergenerational view of Indigenous women and the influences they have in their communities, within Indigenous movements, and among each other in a variety of contexts, including leadership, seed sovereignty, repatriation, sacred places protection, Indigenous knowledge movements, community work, language, and teaching the next generation. Each class is specifically designed to centralize the interconnectedness and relationships of Indigenous women among their Indigenous nations and communities, and the intergenerational nature of their life works. The class will hear from a variety of speakers who will offer important insight into rematriation and their struggles against colonialism, the commodification of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous lands, and the diminishment of Indigenous rights, that have lead to the movements they established.
