Catalog description

Have you ever run to a dictionary to “prove” something is a word and found yourself surprised it’s not there? Or maybe you’ve seen the incredible work of the Wampanoak tribe on reawakening and teaching their language? In this class we will talk about the multi-disciplinary field of language documentation and the why, how, and who of how language documentation material is made and shared. You will be encouraged to connect what you learn back to your own concentrations and experiences and to critically engage with the impacts of how this information is shared on perceptions of knowledge and power.
