Federal Indian Law: Native Nations, Resistance, and Indigenous Rights

Catalog description

This class is an introductory course to Federal Indian Law and the history of Nations Nations and their advocacy for Indigenous Rights. It will provide a multi-century overview of cases brought by Native Nations and Indigenous people in federal courts, including the history that led to these cases. It will center around specific time periods and topics of Indigenous resistance and federal policies that shape the landscape of federal laws and legal precedent that affect Nations Nations and their Indigenous people today. The class will hear from a variety of speakers in federal Indian law involved in Supreme Court cases over the past 40 years.
