Catalog description

Students will explore the core principles of musical composition through contemporary digital creation practices, focusing on blending acoustic and electronic elements. Using modern music production tools students will master fundamental concepts of composition, including form, gesture, melody, and counterpoint. Students will learn to create various musical forms by manipulating pre-recorded sounds as the primary material for their compositions. When studying melody and counterpoint, the course will introduce MIDI mockup techniques, enabling students to create realistic virtual recordings of their compositions. As such we will explore technical aspects, creative possibilities, and limitations of using MIDI. As a final project, students will compose music to accompany visuals, such as film, video, or digital art. In this work students will demonstrate their ability to control musical material in a way that effectively supports and enhances the storyline, conveying emotions and narrative through music.
