MPA 2228
Communication on the Political and Global Stage
Brown University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Students may or may not go into government, politics, or other forms of public service, but wherever they go and whatever they do, including as global citizens, they will consume news and may shape the contours of public debate by their own participation or decision not to participate. Certainly, all will be affected by it. This course seeks to answer the question from the unique perspective of public communicators: how do we communicate issues and messages on the public stage, to insiders and outsiders, whether domestically or in the world? The objective of the class is not just to encourage a new understanding of the complexities of public communication, but to learn how to bring those skills to whatever vocation and career path you may choose.
