Catalog description

In early modernity, The Ottoman Empire ruled over the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe. Under the pressure of increasing European expansionism as well as nationalist movements, the Empire fragmented and eventually dissolved after World War I, giving rise to a cluster of modern nation states as well as colonial states. This course introduces students to the visual and material cultures of the late Ottoman and post-Ottoman world.
