Catalog description

In this course, the prose poem will be considered historically, globally, and in its varied contemporary manifestations. We will examine prose poetry as form, technique, and experiment; as resistance and deviation; as translation and adaptation; as dream work, protest, document. The texts we study will serve as springboards to the writing of prose poetry, through in-class writing, assignments, and workshop. Each student will complete a small chapbook of prose poems by the end of the semester.
