Catalog description

Is there a place for capital-g God in contemporary fiction? If so, how might the concept of God help us explore our individual and collective search for meaning? And what might narratives about encounters with the divine tell us about the idiosyncrasies of belief (in God, in ideas, in the self)? As we read works by Albert Camus, Graham Greene, Shusaku Endo, Marilynn Robinson and Ursula Le Guin, among others, we’ll discuss why writers still attend to notions of the sacred and divine decades after “the death of God.”
