LITR 1110U
Script to Screen: Fundamentals of Filmmaking
Brown University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course explores ways in which a series of short filmmaking exercises can serve both first-time filmmakers, providing a solid foundation, and more experienced ones, providing low-stakes avenues for creative experimentation. Students who have some proficiency in screenwriting or poetry are especially encouraged to apply. The course aims to open writers up to the possibility of making films, while also investigating how production experiences can inform future writing projects. Assignments involve a variety of filmmaking techniques and tools to investigate visual language and its interplay with sound (with and without dialogue), and can be tailored to students with all levels of experience.
